+++Minor Spoilers+++I enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected to. If you aren't a fan of tennis, it may not work for you. I liked the characters and the author writes well. The h is an average sort of tennis player on the womens circuit and she's thinking of retiring. She's been in a 4 yr relationship with one of the top mens stars, who is also a bit younger than her. Their relationship is only about sex and they don't speak to each other about anything other than hooking up when they are in the same town. The H is the top mens star and is the h's boyfriend's biggest rival. The H is pretty cool but the h's boyfriend is an ass. The interesting thing in this story is that no one really gets what they deserve. The jerk boyfriend doesn't get exposed but the h suffers a lot. The h's mother is an outright b**ch but she emerges unscathed.
It's a quirky story and no fairy tale and I think I would've preferred that the h be less 'slutty'. The H is a dream and I'm still not sure what he saw in the h. I think the epilogue saved the book for me.

After Wimbledon eBook Jennifer Gilby Roberts Reviews
Boy meets girl and then the entire book is devoted to throwing up obstacles. I like the idea of a star athlete being female but this girl was the kind you want to reach into the story and slap. The author seemed to realize it was time to end the book and shoved all the closing details together in the last couple of chapters. Not bad but don't pay more than 99 cents.
What can I say, picked this book up for free and I love an English Chick Lite romance to mix it up when reading. Lucy is a tennis pro, sort of dating a horrible fellow that is also a tennis pro- Joe. Sam is the number one player going into Wimbledon and all the women swoon over this New Zealander. They have another thing in common they are both on the verge of retiring from tennis. I enjoyed all the characters, the English lingo and the feel of the story. I would be looking for more from this author.
Unlike some other reviewers who have stated you have to be a tennis fan to like this book, I found it very easy to read. Granted, I played tennis a bit when I was young, but I never watch it on tv, and it's not much different than when you're reading about a businessman or his secretary doing whatever.
I loved this book! It was well-written, the characters were really great and for the most part, likeable. I will be reading more of this author's books!
There were some silly things about the book, including the character stating that she had no talent as a tennis player, but had won a grand slam. Please, if you have won a grand slam you have talent. It was a boring book as far as I am concerned and one you should skip
Wimbledon tennis matches are described in the book. The matches are part of the story, though, and even though I am not a tennis buff, I was fine with reading about the matches. I thought the 2 main characters fell in love just a little too fast. But on the other hand, I think sometimes you can fall hard and fast, especially if you have come to the time in life where you want marriage and children. I would prefer it if the heroine hadn't slept around so much in the past. She did seem like a slut in the past. However, she was not a slut during the events of the story. It was a pretty good story and I am glad that I read it. I would give it 3.5 stars.
This book was a great read. Exactly what I look for in my reading - a fun escape that kept me turning the pages. Jennifer Gilby Roberts is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing is witty and her characters are realistic. I enjoyed Lucy and the well-developed cast of characters that surrounded her.
On a side note I have basically no knowledge of the game of tennis, but despite that I was still easily drawn into the tournaments and even felt excitement (and some anxiety) as they played. It actually made me want to learn more about the game.
Looking forward to more books from this author!
Ms. Roberts has created an absolutely charming romance that faces ups and downs as champions strive to survive the highs and lows of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship.
You don't have to enjoy tennis to love the characters, but if you're someone like me - life comes to a screeching halt for every Grand Slam - this book will be doubly enjoyable. We meet Lucy Bennet, age 28. She's played tennis her whole life, and her family has managed Englands illustrious tennis facility for decades. Her star has reached its summit, and she's thinking of retiring.
Boyfriend, American Joe Harker, ranked second, is going to stay on the circuit until he dies. You get the feeling he's an unpleasant Andy Roddick. Ms. Roberts does a great job at pulling in some of John McEnroe's witticisms here.
Ranked first, Sam Pennington is at the height of his ability and is Joe Harker's nemesis. If you are a tennis fan, I thought of Patrick Rafter. Kind, hard working, completely committed to his passion. Sam is beginning to think about life after tennis.
The trio have been travelling the globe playing at the same tennis tournaments for years. Just as Wimbledon begins Sam and Lucy finally truly noticed each other.
Read this laugh out loud novel. This book has the perfect amount of believability and fantasy. I found myself unable to put it down.
