In book 6 of the Gaslight Chronicles (a novella), Inspector Sebastian Brown is interrupted one evening when a woman knocks on his door looking for a doctor. Sebastian takes her next door to the doctors office. Minerva Shaw is desperate for help, her daughter Ivy is extremely ill, several of her school friends have died from the illness and Minerva is determined to get help for her. Dr. Grant is one of only a few doctors who will treat a patient without expecting immediate payment.

When the doctor is treating emergency patients, Sebastian offers to bring the child to the doctor. He escorts Minnie to her home in one of the poorer sections of London. When they enter, someone has been there ahead of them and Ivy is not there.

Sebastian solve one problem but there are many more to be solved. With the help of Minnie and other members of the Order of the Round Table, another mystery is solved for the crown.

Another book will be out on May 19 - Dragons and Dirigibles - I can't wait!

I'm having a ball with this series. Starting the next one as soon as I finish this review and get some more water.
Sweet little story, well-written, with good character development, and interesting plot...it is always nice to find out more about the Order and its workings...a fun little bagatel!
When I queried Cindy Spencer Pape about the length of this book as I thought it was a short but enjoyable addition to the Gaslight Chronicles series, she replied
"There is sort of a pattern. If one of the protagonists is one of the Hadrians, it's a longer book. If it's a MacKay, it's usually mid-length, sort of the size of a "category" paperback. And if it's neither, then it's usually a shorter novella."
Good series involving a "mystery" in each instalment along with a romance and steampunk mechanicals. Each novel stands alone but best to read them in order.
Another wonderful instalment in this series. Minnerva is a real and heartfelt character and little Ivy is just adorable. I'd love to know more about the science behind this story and I'm hoping since there wasn't a clear conclusion, we may see more of these characters and this topic in the future. As usual, this author never disappoints.
It is the latest in her Gaslight Chronicles. These are fun stories with characters whom we have become familiar and new ones being added with each story. If you want a little adventure and some Romance and some, er, "hot" scenes, then these are for you. I only wish Ms. Pape would return to a full length book; but, if not, then I can feed my appetite for her stories in these stories.
I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I don't think we got to know enough about the characters. Their relationship moved slowly, which seemed right, but then jumped way ahead of what felt natural for the pace of their romance. SPOILER The proposal actually suited the situation, but their "I love you" declarations seemed awkward and unnatural for their characters and their romance.
A fun steampunk story that covers the mystery of a disease that has been killing children. An officer of the Scotland yard working under the werewolf Liam finds the lovely Minnie on his doorstep and helps her with her 4 year old daughter Ivy. For some reason the child spends most of her time asleep, but offers up an important clue in one of her rare conscience moments. I still really liked this one but for some reason it fell a little flat for me. The hero and heroine of the story are older than the others when they got their love stories, which makes for a pleasant change. All in all a nice edition to the series.
