Emperor Mage The Immortals Book 3 Tamora Pierce Books

This, the third novel in Tamora Pierce's Immortals Series, finds Daine (a young mage with Wild Magic with animals) and her tutor, Numair, traveling from Tortall to the Carthaki Kingdom. The trip is a peace-making journey, with diplomats and generals coming to talk of peace. Numair, formally banished by the Carthaki emperor for failing to support his reign, returns in order to protect his student, Daine, who has been asked to travel so that she can try to save the prized birds of the Emperor. Even at the start of their visit the appearance of good intentions is strained; soon it is torn apart as the Emperor tries to find and execute Numair, kidnaps Daine and her young dragon, and finds ways to make the peace-making go down in flames.
Daine continues to develop and mature as the novel progresses, both in terms of her magical powers, her understanding that good and evil are not necessarily based solely on what group one belongs to, and that her heritage is still veiled although small rents are appearing, yielding enticing clues about her past and potential glimpses provide shadowy hints about the identity of her unknown father.
I am, I admit, one who adores Pierce's Tortallian world. These are wonderful reads: they target young adolescent readers, but they are also great for older readers who enjoy novels that show intriguing characters who must face and succeed when challenged. I am particularly thrilled by the emergence of her powerful buy realistically portrayed young women who find themselves moving beyond traditional roles for new horizons.

Emperor Mage The Immortals Book 3 Tamora Pierce Books Reviews

I have read all of Tamora Pierce's series but the Immortals series has always been my favorite. Daine is delightfully funny but practical. I would recommend this book for any young ladies that you know who love animals and need strong ladies to look up to. Daine, Alanna(song of the lioness) and Keladry(protector of the small series) are women a girl can look up to; their personal struggles helped me through my teen years. I read these books every year or so as an adult and remember all the pleasure they brought me, thanks to my mothers thoughtful Christmas gift one year.
What a great series! With a heartful female hero, and great characters who actually have some nobility and true courage. I'm looking forward to the fourth book in this series and so hoping for more from this fantastic author. Then I will explore her other books. The depths of these characters, the lack of a copious gory carnage way too prevalent in many novels today, and no sliming with various kinds of obscenity language and other kinds, makes this writer a jewel to cherish!
Absolutely love this book! Once again, Daine is sent on a mission to help animals and this time its the Emperor of Carthak's birds. If you've been following the Immortals series, you know by now the emperor is evil. They send Daine along as a gesture of goodwill, as delegates of Tortall are invited to come and negotiate peace talks.
While in Carthak, Daine gets nominated by one of the lesser gods to enact the gods/goddesses displeasure with the emperor. It's a grand adventure from beginning to end with twists no one would suspect. Happy Reading!
I read this books for the first time when I was in Jr High School. I was completely in love with this book and the rest of the series. After re-reading it again now that I am done with college and a mother I find it still entertaining just not as good as I once thought. It could have used more details and a longer story line. It seems to move very quickly. Which is nice if you are looking for a quick read. I recommend her series called 'Protector of the Small' the final 2 books in that series are longer and don't leave you feeling like you just read an overview.
I did some research into why her books are not as detailed, and she said that when she wrote all of her books besides the two I mentioned above publishers wouldn't print over 200ish pages for teenage reads. She said that Harry Potter changed that and now publishers are a lot more willing to print longer books that are for teenagers.
With all that said I would recommend this book! It's a great quick read, it doesn't take up days and days of your time.
I thought Wolfspeaker was a letdown in terms of action, but this book picks right up. Daine goes on a diplomatic visit to the neighboring Carthaki empire, a country which has incurred the wrath of gods. Tension and suspense run through the story, as Daine discovers a strange new power and converses with ambiguous enemies and allies. Portents of disaster befall the empire, culminating in a personal tragedy which leads Daine to unleash her power and fury.

I like that the characters are so well developed. There are no one-dimensional villains. People do bad things sometimes not out of viciousness, but because that's the only way of life they know. Then there are the ambiguous characters who keep you guessing which side they are on. Even one of the animals gets to achieve a moment of vindication. Daine herself goes through leaps of development. We see her introspection, her pride, and then, her rage. Even though she was chosen as a "vessel" for the gods, she accomplishes the mission mostly through her own choices.

Overall I really like this book. It's not to be missed if you have read Daine's previous adventures.
I enjoyed this book even though it moved at leisurely pace for much of the story. It explored more of the world and mythology of the series. It also confirmed more about Diane’s parents and where her powers come from. Ive enjoyed the the presentation of the gods and goddesses of this world. I really like the character of Daine. It would appear that any who underestimate her do so at their own peril!
AMAZING book, amazing characters, fascinating magic and inventive fantasy world-setting. I love the main character, Daine, so very much-- she's kind-hearted, realistic, practical, and so very loyal to the people and animals she loves. She's NEVER whiny or annoying-- she does what she has to do, even if it's scary or dangerous, and never complains about her magical abilities (animal-speaking) as if they're a horrible burden, the way many badly-written heroines do.
